The fine print
Privacy policy
This page explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, and what you can do about it.
This page is a draft prepared ahead of formal legal review. It sets out our current practice in plain English, but has not yet been signed off by our legal or compliance team, so treat it as a work in progress rather than a final policy.
Who we are
Why Not Cars Pty Ltd (Why Not, we, us) operates whynotownit.com.au and the rent to own service described on this site. You can reach us at admin@whynotownit.com.au.
What we collect
When you use the 60 second qualify check or the full application, we collect information you give us directly, such as your name, contact details, date of birth, employment and income details, and information about your current expenses and commitments. We use this to work out whether a weekly payment genuinely fits your budget.
When you browse the site, we also collect basic technical and usage information, such as pages viewed, device type and general location, through analytics tools. We currently use Microsoft Clarity and Statcounter for this. These tools help us understand how the site is used and fix things that don't work well, they don't process your loan or application details.
How we use it
- ✓ To assess whether we can offer you a rent to own agreement, and on what terms.
- ✓ To run and manage your agreement if you go ahead, including payments, servicing and support.
- ✓ To respond when you contact us with a question, a hardship request or a complaint.
- ✓ To understand how people use the site so we can keep improving it.
Who we share it with
We may share information with the parties that help us run the business, such as the finance provider funding the vehicle fleet, insurers, vehicle servicing partners, our website and analytics providers, and, where relevant, credit reporting bodies. We only share what's needed for that purpose, and we don't sell your information to third parties for marketing.
Storage and security
We take reasonable steps to keep your information secure and only keep it for as long as we need it, or as long as we're required to by law.
Access, correction and complaints
You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, by emailing admin@whynotownit.com.au. If you're not happy with how we've handled your information, you can also lodge a complaint, see our complaints page for how that works. If we can't resolve it, you can take it to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
